Mental Health: Inpatient

Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) is a Schedule 1 facility which serves the broader region with our unique mental health programs. We are a 20 bed inpatient unit that provides care and treatment to adults 16 years and older experiencing acute and chronic mental health and addiction illness. Individuals are assessed and treated with medication(s), individual and group therapy and relaxation therapy.

You must be referred by a physician or a nurse practitioner to our inpatient unit. Our professional team provides a safe environment for those individuals requiring short term treatment.  We are part of the alliance team and will link the individual to services that are required.

We provide client –centered care that values trust respect fairness and advocacy. Our team works closely with the Assertive Community Treatment Team, Seniors Mental Health, The Eating Disorder Program, Intensive Case Management and the Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychosis.

Psychiatry Services

Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) is a Schedule 1 Facility, which serves the broader region with our unique Mental Health programs. The 20 bed inpatient program services adults experiencing acute mental health and addictions issues and concerns. In partnership with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), three of these beds are available to individuals requiring withdrawal management and three addiction services.

We believe in providing client- centered, quality care in an environment that values trust, respect, fairness and advocacy. Our goal is to help individuals in the program to recover through assessment and treatment plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs.

Social Work

The Social Workers at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) provide the following services to inpatients utilizing a case management approach:

  • Consultation and assessment with multidisciplinary treatment teams, both in our hospital and the community.
  • Discharge planning, which involves assessment of the patient and his/her social situation to determine appropriate post hospital care and facilitate placement, where needed.
  • Facilitating connections for financial assistance, legal representation, educational upgrading and vocational rehabilitation, as necessary.
