Laboratory (AMGH & SHH)

The Laboratory at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital (AMGH) provides Lab services to Inpatients and Emergency clients 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are a proud partner of the InterHospital Laboratory Partnership (IHLP). 

Our Laboratory provides the following services:

• Core Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Immunohematology (Blood Bank) testing
• Infant Hearing Screening services for newborns
• Microbiology (performed at Stratford General Hospital)
• Pathology and Cytology (performed at Stratford General Hospital)
• Point of Care Testing Coordination and Management
• Referral Lab services
• Specimen Collection

Outpatient Blood Work

Lab services for pre-op, AMGH hospital clinics, and pre-arranged outpatient clients are provided Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For routine community Outpatient bloodwork, please visit Dynacare across the street.

Preparing for your visit

If the conversation with your doctor and/or Laboratory requisition includes a fasting test, please refrain from eating and drinking at least 12 hours before your blood sample collection time.

 A valid Health Card is required for all services, otherwise a fee will be charged.

The South Huron Hospital’s Laboratory Department provides chemistry, hematology and coagulation, urinalysis, blood gases and blood collection services to patients of our Inpatient Unit and Emergency Department.

Ontario Laboratory Information System (OLIS)  

The South Huron Hospital (SHH) is a proud member of the Ontario Laboratory Information System (OLIS). OLIS is a secure information system that allows health care providers (hospitals, community laboratories, and public health laboratories) to securely share laboratory results instantly.

The benefits of OLIS membership to patients include:

• More timely and complete laboratory information
• Decreased duplication of laboratory testing
• Fewer gaps in patient care during transitions (i.e. hospital to family physician, hospital to long-term care, etc.)

Outpatient Laboratory Services

Community outpatient laboratory services at the South Huron Medical Centre are processed by Gamma Dynacare. Appointments are required, and a signed requisition from a physician must be presented. To schedule an appointment, book online at the South Huron Medical Centre website or call 519-235-3343. Please bring your requisition with you or fax it to 519-235-3845.
