About the South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA):
We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities—a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London, and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. As a small rural hospital, we cherish the relationship we have with our community and pledge uncompromising standards to those we serve.
Position Description:
The Cook is responsible for the preparation of patient orders and required hospitality items in accordance with applicable regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Preparing meals for patients, including special orders to accommodate dietary restrictions
- Ensuring that meals are prepared and presented to a high standard of quality, with appropriate portions
- Communication with other staff to keep informed as to patient needs
- Promoting and serving meals in the cafeteria
- Supporting business functions and special occasions (e.g., staff appreciation events)
- Placing food orders with suppliers
- Monitor kitchen inventory and ingredients
- Properly rotate inventory using a food rotation system, verifying that all food products are dated and organized for quality assurance
- Operating cash register, handling cash, making change and running reports
- Ensure the kitchen operates in compliance with Hospital Policies and Procedures
- Ensure safety and sanitation of the kitchen
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Abilities):- Secondary School Diploma
- Current Certificate of Qualification as a Cook, preferred
- Food Service Worker Certificate, preferred
- Valid certificate in Safe Food Handling required
- Minimum of one (1) year experience in large volume food service in an institutional setting
- Demonstrated familiarity with dietary restrictions and therapeutic diets
- Co-operative and able to communicate effectively with patients, public and other healthcare team members
- Possess good organizational skills
- Excels in both a team environment and as a self-directed worker
- Current Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen and immunization status required upon hire.
