About the South Huron Hospital Association (SHHA):

We serve the Municipality of South Huron and its adjacent communities- a catchment area of approximately 19,000 residents. The hospital is located in the village of Exeter, approximately 30 minutes north of London and provides 24/7 emergency services in addition to acute, rehabilitation and complex continuing care inpatient services and various diagnostic and ambulatory services. Our staff also supports family practice and walk-in care at the South Huron Medical Centre. As a small rural hospital, we cherish the relationship we have with our community and pledge uncompromising standards to those we serve.


Position Summary:

The Accounts Receivable (A/R) Clerk is responsible for providing effective and efficient processing of Business Office transactions including Hospital and Physician revenues. The A/R Clerk relies upon a strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare processes to guide their workflow. Specific responsibilities of the A/R Clerk will include the following:

  • Collect and record client receivables, including Physician, Inpatient and Outpatient receivables
  • Issue and distribute invoices
  • Prepare, submit, reconcile and follow up on Hospital and Physician related billings (e.g.: Walk-in Clinic, OHIP, WSIB, ER, etc)
  • Complete bank reconciliation and petty cash
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting entries and processes
  • Other duties in support of the Business Office and the Chief Financial Officer as assigned
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital privacy and confidentiality policies
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety policies and procedures

Qualifications (education, experience, abilities):

  • A strong understanding of medical terminology and healthcare processes, acquired through a post-secondary certificate/diploma as a Medical Office Assistant, or a combination of education and prior experience 
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a computerized bookkeeping environment; experience with HRCM software and MCEDT systems will be an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills. Able to communicate tactfully and courteously with staff, vendors, and the public
  • Able to perform routine duties/tasks on a continuous basis
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment 
  • Detail oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Proficient typing and calculative skills 
  • Current Police Check/Vulnerable Sector Screen and immunization status required upon hire.

Immunization Records: Successful candidates must provide evidence of fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
