Overview:

The Ward Clerk plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of a hospital unit by providing administrative and clerical assistance. Responsibilities include managing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; maintaining accurate patient records; coordinating communication between physicians, nurses, and departments; answering phones; and ensuring timely processing of orders and documentation.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Strong communication skills, proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems, and a commitment to patient confidentiality are essential. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Medical Secretarial Diploma or Equivalent Medical Terminology 
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Computer literacy and keyboarding skills. 
  • Documented public relations skills with ability to problem solve effectively.
 

Required Skills:

  • Ability to organize related activities; to remain flexible; and adapt to crisis situations and rapid change 
  • Ability to manage a variety of patient conditions 
  • Sound problem solving, conflict resolution and decision making skills 
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Self-directed, motivated team player with a commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education 
  • Good attendance and work record is essential 
  • Ability to work weekends and rotating shifts
  • Consistently meets attendance expectations, demonstrating reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts
