Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ recent experience (within the last 3 years) of medical transcription in a Health Records department
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and pharmacology
  • Demonstrated knowledge and expertise of computers and use of software

 

Required Skills:

  • Ability to assess requests and prioritize them
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, personal health information releases and reports; as well as, sort, review and file various documents
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrate initiative and good judgment in problem solving and identifying opportunities for action
  • Excellent understanding of Medical Terminology and Pharmaceutical terms
  • Excellent verbal, written, telephone and computer skills
  • Excellent demonstrated grammar skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Demonstrated good health and attendance record required
  • Able to maintain an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, hospital staff and public
  • Professional demeanour
  • Proven organizational, analytical service orientation
  • Ability to respond to telephone inquiries in the Health Records Department
  • Ability to transcribe 100 minutes of dictation per day
  • Demonstrated knowledge and compliance to Ontario Privacy Legislation
  • Consistently meets attendance expectations, demonstrating reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts
