HHS Celebrates National Healthcare Environmental Services Week
September 15, 2025
Huron Health System (HHS) is proud to
celebrate National Healthcare Environmental
Services Week, from September 14 to 20, at Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital in Goderich and South Huron Hospital in Exeter.
This week is a chance to recognize and thank the members of the hospitals’ housekeeping
services teams for the essential role they play in keeping the hospitals safe
and clean.
From the handrails touched by countless hands
to the chairs where patients and visitors sit, every surface is meticulously
disinfected to prevent the spread of infection before it starts. Waste is
removed swiftly to maintain cleanliness and ensure uninterrupted operations,
while fresh linens are consistently replaced to provide both comfort and care
to every patient. These actions go beyond routine, they are critical measures
that help ensure safety and health. Through these daily practices, healthcare
environments are kept clean and maintained to create spaces where patients,
staff, and visitors can feel protected and cared for at every step.
“Whether it's preparing a room for a new
patient or ensuring high-touch areas are sanitized, these team members are a
critical part of every care story that happens at our hospitals,” said Jimmy
Trieu, President and CEO of Huron Health System. “Oftentimes, their work happens
quietly in the background, but its impact is seen in every patient’s journey. This
week, we’re proud to bring their essential role into the spotlight and say
thank you.”
A week of celebrations has been planned,
featuring giveaways and engaging activities. It's an opportunity for the teams
to come together, enjoy shared moments, and acknowledge the valuable
contributions they make each day.
“Quality care is never the result of just one
person. It takes a coordinated team working together to support patients,” added
Trieu. “That includes the vital work happening behind the scenes, which
deserves to be recognized not just this week, but all year round.”
HHS encourages staff, patients, families, and
community members to take a moment this week to thank housekeeping services
workers. Their efforts make a lasting difference in the lives of everyone who
walks through the hospitals’ doors.
